You become a leader when you know your purpose and you are perservering to accomplish it. Seeing your determination others will join hands with you and recognize you as a leader. John Maxwell says if you are a leader and there is no one following you, you are just taking a walk.

Cyril, When God gives you a vision, step out in faith to accomplish the vision. When others see how important the vision is to you, and they see you pressing in and not giving up, it will inspire them to know more about your vision. As a leader, now you can inspire them to become part of your team. Others will follow a leader with God's vision. Gale Henning: JBC OMEGA

I really saw this evidenced when we had the 7 visions cast in the class. Seeing the passion, determination and faith of those leaders was truly inspiring.

When God finally gives you that vision you become hungry to move in that direction. You become passionate for that cause and begin sharing it. You are the catylst for that vision (outside of the Lord that is). You may talk to one person who joins on or who merely tells someone else who is interested. That someone else will contact you in the end if they too begin to get consumed with the vision. We are leaders when we are obedient to God and His Word. When we are in submission to Him it is God who will bring us to a place of leadership, provide us with a means for obtaining the skills to be that leader (including putting us in places to get that training) and providing us with an army around us to make that vision a reality. All we need to do is take up the sword and move forward with those who have signed on. As we do so our army will grow and with each victory, each obstacle eliminated we get closer to that vision until one day we find ourself there...at that one point that was once only a thought, a vision now turned into reality.

I'm not real clear about my purpose, tha's what I'm searching for. I know that I am a leader just by the way people respond to me. I feel like I'm preparing myself for the day that God releases me to do what He has called me to do.

That is one of my favorite quotes!! John Maxwell certainly has wisdom. It is so easy to get caught up in leading that we run away without our flock and leave people far behind us. We have to know the learning curve of our team and have an open relationship so that those we are leading are safe to let us know when we are running off without them!

I agree. I have found that as I pursue my dream and follow the passions that I have that I influence others to do the same. There is something that happens in a person that frees them when they see someone else living their dream--they discover that they too have a dream and that they want to pursue their dreams just as hard.
